“I have never thought to seek assistance for my business until being challenged with COVID-19 and its effects on my business… [my consultant] inspired me to take a deeper look into my business and discover ways to improve as a business owner.”

The ECE field is dynamic with frequent changes in regulations, funding streams, quality rating standards, and community impacts. In addition to our regular ECE business supports programs, we seek and create new opportunities to support timely needs and challenges by leveraging our relationships with partners, stakeholders, and funders.

COVID-19 ECE Business Stabilization TA

When COVID-19 quarantine measures began in March 2020, Early Childhood Education (ECE) providers were immediately impacted by a statewide order to close their businesses. Owners and program administrators were forced to make swift business decisions in a fearful and uncertain context, impaired by health and revenue concerns.

PHMC utilized the infrastructure and consultant networks of its existing Philadelphia ECE business support programs to deploy a centralized system of tiered COVID-19 ECE business TA. PHMC was able to shift work and rapidly mobilize to support child care providers unprepared for this business disruption.

The pandemic highlighted both the fragile and the essential nature of the child care industry. CLICK HERE to learn more about the impact of the pandemic and results of TA delivered. This report is an analysis of responses of an exit survey distributed to directors after completing their TA engagement. Findings should not be generalized as representative of city-wide provider trends but provide useful insight about the status of early childhood businesses during this turbulent period.

COMING SOON! Thanks to generous funding from the Vanguard Strong Start for Kids, PHMC will again provide tiered business supports TA. Stay tuned for updated resources, group learning opportunities, and how to apply for one-on-one TA.

COVID-19 Health and Safety Supports and Resources

A critical component of reopening your business is making the right decisions about the health and safety of your children and families, your staff, and your program. So many policies to update and implement! How are you going to implement social distancing…and masks!? PHMC’s COVID-19 Health and Safety team continues to monitor information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the PA Office of Child Development and Early Learning, and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health. We can help you navigate the recommendations and guidelines to turn them in to everyday practices in your program and classrooms.
